How to Choose a Tummy Tucker Panty: Fabric, Belt Height and Size

A tummy tucker panty is a high-waist panty with a broad elastic waistband that gently smooths and firms your tummy. Unlike heavy shapewear, it is made to be worn all day, like a regular panty. This guide explains what to look for: the fabric, the height of the belt, inner or outer elastic, and how to pick the right size.

What a tummy tucker panty does (and does not do)

A tummy tucker gives a smoother line under sarees, kurtis, dresses and fitted trousers by holding your midsection with a broad elastic band. It does not reduce weight or inches; it simply shapes how clothes sit on you while you wear it. If you have had a recent C-section or any medical condition, check with your doctor before wearing shapewear.

1. Choose the fabric: cotton-rich or nylon

  • Cotton with a little spandex (for example 95% cotton, 5% spandex) is breathable and soft, with enough stretch to hold its shape. It suits long days and warm weather.
  • 100% cotton interlock is a soft, slightly thicker cotton knit with natural give rather than stretch.
  • Nylon-spandex shapers are smoother and usually firmer, but they feel warmer. Many women keep them for occasions rather than everyday wear.

If you plan to wear a tummy tucker every day in Indian weather, a cotton-rich fabric is the practical choice.

2. Choose the belt height and support

The waistband does the shaping. A taller belt covers more of your tummy for a smoother line from waist to hip. A shorter broad belt feels lighter and is easier to wear all day. Some packs let you choose the support level, such as firmer "belly control" or a softer "tummy smoothening" hold.

3. Inner or outer elastic?

Inner elastic is covered by fabric on the inside of the waistband, so only fabric touches your skin. Outer elastic sits on the outside edge and lies flat. Both work well; choose the feel you prefer.

4. Get the size right

Shapewear should feel snug, not tight. Measure the fullest part of your hips (not your waist) and match it to the chart below. If you are between two sizes, or the waistband presses in, choose the larger size: a too-small tummy tucker rolls down and digs in instead of smoothing.

Size Hip (cm) Hip (inches) Waist (cm) Waist (inches)
M 86–91 34–36 76–81 30–32
L 91–97 36–38 81–86 32–34
XL 97–103 38–41 86–91 34–36
2XL 103–109 41–43 91–96 36–38
3XL 106–116 42–46 96–106 38–42

Tummy tucker FAQs

Can I wear a tummy tucker panty every day?

Yes, if it fits correctly. Choose a breathable cotton-rich fabric and a size that feels snug but comfortable. If it leaves deep marks or feels tight when you sit, go up a size.

Will it roll down?

A broad waistband in your correct size is designed to stay in place. Rolling down usually means the size is too small, or the rise is too low for your body.

Can I wear it under a saree?

Yes. A high-waist tummy tucker sits under the petticoat and smooths the line at the waist and tummy.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle, do not bleach and dry in the shade. Avoid wringing, so the elastic keeps its hold for longer.

Can I return or exchange shapewear?

For hygiene reasons, shapewear is final sale for size, fit or colour. If anything arrives damaged or wrong, we replace or refund it. See our Returns & Exchange page.
